An aerial view showing the parade ground and surrounding building all of which pre - date the year 1900.   8 Brigade Headquarters complex has already been demolished in this picture taken in late 2007.   Notice the original walled defences from the Star Fort at the bottom of the Barracks overlooking the River Foyle.
Another aerial view of the Parade ground showing Cunningham block, the Officers Mess and NAAFI block.
The Main body of   the Ebrington Barracks showing the Officers Mess, NAAFI block, Other Ranks Mess, Warrant Officer & Sergeants Mess and Rubb Hall sports hall.   Sgt David Evans of 25 Fld Sqn Royal Engineers was killed in the Sergeants Mess on 21st July 1976 after an IRA booby trap bomb exploded in the Mess.   The three wooden huts behind the NAAFI block housed a Church/Chapel, and the SSVC shop (Services Sound and Vision Corporation where single soldiers could hire Television sets and other electrical items such as washing machines and dryers as the Barracks had no Laundry.
Demolition of the top of Ebrington Barracks had just commenced when this aerial picture was taken.   only Raleigh and Benbow Blocks and the old schoolhouse which was used as HQ Company stores and office now remain.   Notice the size of Rubb Hall in comparison to the surrounding buildings.
A wider angled aerial shot showing the top of Ebrington Barracks prior to the main demolition work.   Note the remains of the RUC Browning Drive site at the bottom of the picture.   How many remember the Friday Night Disco???
An Aerial shot of Clooney Base taken in 2007 after the base had closed.   Foyle & Londonderry College and Ebrington Primary School are due to re-locate to the site in the future.
This aerial shot taken in 2007 shows the Masonic Patrol Base on Bishops Street Within being dismantled.   Numerous attacks were made on the base during the conflict and 4 Soldiers were shot dead by snipers in the 1970's.
RUC Rosemount was used as a Patrol Base for many years during the conflict.   6 Soldiers died in Rosemount.   This aerial shot shows the base being dismantled.
Fort George was the main Cityside Base in Londonderry.   The site has been completely cleared in preparation for re - development.   Up to 250 personnel from the Army, RUC and Civilian Staff were based within Fort George at any one time.
This Aerial shot shows where the Border Checkpoint at Coshquin once stood.   In 1990 it was the scene of an atrocity when the IRA murdered Fort George civilian cook Patsy Gillespie and 5 members of the 1st Battalion of The Kings Regiment after strapping Mr Gillespie in to the seat of a vehicle and ordering him to drive to the checkpoint whilst holding his family hostage in Derry - it is believed that a member of the IRA then detonated the bomb under Mr Gillespie's seat by remote control as Soldiers tried to help him.   This was the first of the IRA "Human Proxy Bomb" attacks
Another aerial view of the Masonic Patrol base on Bishops Street Within being dismantled.   Originally, there was 2 Sangers at this location, Papa 5 Alpha and Kilo Sanger.   In later years, a Super Sanger/ Ops Room dominated the skyline with the increase in Mortar and RPG attacks on the Base.   One incident remembered was the attack by a gunman who shot at Soldiers in the base from the City Cemetery using the deadly Barratt Light 50 Calibre Rifle.   - Does anyone remember the "Sanger Banger"?!?
